Welcome to the Music Mood Academy.

We'll help you learn your favourite songs on the cello faster. While saving you hours every week.

A carefully crafted practice routine can completely change your cello learning journey - it changed mine.

If we haven’t met before - Hi, my name’s Jayden 👋

I am the founder of Music Mood and started teaching cello in 2012. Over the years, I notice that most of my adult students are actually working 50-60 hours a week in the office, commuting 1-2 hours a day, and juggling between their health and social life.

That didn’t leave a lot of time to practice on the cello... this is why I have created a series of structured crash courses for students that have little to zero cello background.

After completing the course, they are now able to download sheet music online and play classical pieces like Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 or contemporary hits like JJ Lin's 可惜没如果,

So how do they do it?  Well, it’s pretty simple…

Why do so few adult students actually succeed on learning the cello?

One word - time.

Learning the cello is hard because it takes a lot of time.

I understand you’ve got a job and a family,  you just don’t have 40+ hours a week to devote to your cello practices as your second job.

And especially if you’re juggling your real life alongside your cello journey, these can all feel like a huge time sink.  And unless you’re taking playing cello as your full-time profession, it just seems impossible.

There are dozens of ways in which cello practices suck up your spare time.

Finding musical scores

Of all the musical sheets out there, how do you choose the ones that are more likely to suit your current level? You don’t want to waste time finding sheets that you don't know how to read. And you have had this problem every week, for years.

Fingerings, bowing and positions

And after downloading the musical sheets, the real challenge is to figure out the proper fingerings, techniques, and bowing.

I’m not saying that you can’t figure all of this out on your own.

Yes, there are thousands of hours of videos out there teaching you how to do all of these things, but all those videos will take you thousands of hours to watch, and thousands of hours to implement.

And even then, you might still get it wrong and not see any effective results.

Technical difficulties

Technical issues to play a certain passage can be frustrating and time-consuming to troubleshoot, especially for those who are not too experienced in cello playing.

Effective practice routine

After finding out the steps and techniques needed. You might not know the proper ways to practice effectively. This resulted in lots of frustration as hours of practice just seem not to get the results that you want.

Accountability to follow through

Now after going through all the time and effort in getting everything in place. A lot of students still don't follow through with the routine as they are easily distracted to go back to playing the parts that they like and ended up picking lots of bad habits.

why our online classes work for busy working adults.
Jay is very patient and knowledgeable, I found the course very interesting and inspiring though without any music background or fundamentals myself ahead of taking the classes. Highly recommend for any level of cello lovers to try it!

Very professional and organized! I took a cello course for beginners, which lasted for 10 weeks with a group lesson weekly. Isabelle made the registration process so easy. It was highly organized with timely, detailed communication. The teaching was performed by Jayden, who also made the whole experience very constructive. Jayden makes sure that the students both learn and enjoy. More importantly, he gives every student special attention and encourages teamwork spirit at the same time. The school also facilitates cello rental for students throughout the course. In sum, it was a positive experience through which I was able to establish a relationship with the cello, and I plan to continue.

Jayden is an excellent teacher - he is patient and friendly but still holds his students to high standards. He has prepared a carefully planned curriculum that engages and challenges the class each session. It's been a great experience having been taught by him!

Music Mood is an excellent place to learn cello.  I had zero knowledge about cello but Jayden the teacher put us beginners at ease as we took baby steps cello playing.  We are definitely continuing our next stage after just completing our first beginners course, thanks to our distinguished and superb teacher Jayden!
